West Broad Street Take Another Hit
If I believed in Hell, I imagine daily scalpings
and smallpox-infested
blankets await Mr. Jacobs.
Today's Dispatch reports that Media Play is taking the dirt nap, meaning all four Columbus locations are done for. The ax falls especially hard on West Broad, where KidsRUs, Kmart, and JCPenny have failed and stand empty. Adelphia is on life-support. And Westland Mall has been abandoned by the Jacobs Group as Columbus muscle like Wexner and Glimcher have opened suburban and exurban malls at Tuttle, Polaris, and Easton.
I liked having Media Play on Broad. Now, I'll have to redeem my frequent buyer certificates before they liquidate. In the mean time, don't forget to show your mom and pop stores some love. The Grandpaboy household took hundreds of dollars of business from Target to Larson's - all on account of some foolishness. Larson's employees treated us nice enough to make me think twice about returning to Target if they ever end their discrimination.

I'm silly, i'm naive. I'll be the first to admit it. I don't have much money, probably because I'm silly and naive.
In my little world of big choices, I believe that one can choose communities over profits. I mean, how many billions does one need?
So my store/shopping center is losing money right now. There are folks that do depend on that location, surrounding neighborhoods that, if given a chance, could rebound.
Then again, if I were Jim Thome 4 years ago, I would have taken less money to have stayed and finished up my career in Cleveland.
What the hell do I know?
